Petty Gods: Loose Concepts

These guys just popped into my head:
  • A greater god who has slowly declined into petty godhood. He is almost forgotten.
  • A petty goddess -- once a fertility-maiden, rendered sterile by the curse of another goddess. She is very bitter.
  • A divine messenger who was punished for bringing ill tidings. He has no tongue or fingers, but he will carry written information and deliver it in exchange for magical items.

  1. Regarding idea 1 (and not to step on mwschmeer's toes), it occurs to me that the God of Bronze -- who once reigned supreme as a deity of all metal tools, from weapons to farm implements, shields and armor to statuary -- has now been replaced by the Gods of Iron and Steel, and finds himself relegated to the status of Petty God of Things That Once Were Useful But Now Are Mostly Decorative.

What's worse is that the God of Brass, whom he used to boss around, now outranks him as shiny brass is prettier and more ornamental than bronze. (Also, musical instruments.)

  2. @Erin: That's pretty brilliant. Run with it and flesh this out some more!

    I'll take #2 instead.

    1. Ah, Syizarkhog must have really sunk in. I forgot about this forgotten god! It will be interesting to see where Erin takes the idea.

    2. Syizarkhog is really a poor petty bastard, forgotten by all!

    3. I *really* don't want to tread on anyone's toes. Igor, have I your permission to do my version?

    4. Of course that you can make your version of the concept, Erin!

  5. For anyone who is curious about the result (and is following comments), my write-up for Rasoob, Petty God of Bronze, may be found here.
